Glynn was inside the Golden Bell watching out for any signs of trouble, when Mike arrived.

‘Can you believe it?’ said Mike. ‘Those cheeky bastards had a go at the Grey Mare again.’

‘What, Alan’s lot?’ asked Glynn.

‘Yeah.’

‘You’re joking!’ said Glynn. ‘What the fuck happened?’

‘They were trying to collect again when we got there so me and the lads gave them a good kicking.’

‘I can’t believe the fuckin’ nerve of ’em. No matter how much we sort them out, they still keep coming back for more. Just keep doing what you’re good at, Mike. Hopefully they’ll get the message eventually.’

‘Will do but it’s taking up a lot of our fuckin’ manpower having to keep checking on all our businesses.’

‘I know that,’ said Glynn. ‘But there isn’t any other fuckin’ alternative at the moment. Anyway, at least takings are up here. I’ve got a few dealers onside now.’

‘Yeah, I noticed. It’s working out well.’

‘Dead right. But make the most of it while it fuckin’ lasts.’

‘Why?’ asked Mike, a look of concern plastered across his face.

‘Because there’s about to be some fuckin’ big changes in the club in a couple of weeks’ time. That’s why.’

Mike stared at Glynn, wide-eyed with curiosity. Then he listened intently while Glynn explained what was about to happen.
